The Calkins Family Association’s Five-Year Strategic Plan calls for the development of the Hugh Calkins History Center. Unlike the typical “attic of books and artifacts” model of most history centers, the Center will be a place where family and visitors can examine a historical American artifact in its raw state, conduct practical and project research, learn how to access family histories through genealogy research, and explore authentic period gardens. It is also a place where family and the community can meet and celebrate.
Preservation of the 17th-century artifact illustrating construction techniques across 275+ years. The house stands as a testament to colonial craftsmanship and the enduring Calkins legacy in Norwich, Connecticut.
A multipurpose building for research and CFA activities. The visitor center will house archives, research facilities, and meeting spaces for family gatherings and community events.
Historically and botanically relevant land use featuring period-appropriate gardens. Expert silviculturists and horticulturists will help create authentic colonial-era garden spaces.
An immersive outdoor experience that guides visitors through key moments in Calkins family history, from the 1640 arrival to the modern era.
